Distribution[]

The set was distributed in 15 card wax packs, 48 card rack packs and two different factory sets. This was the first year a factory set was available to hobby dealers.

Base Set[]

1986 Topps is a 792 card base set. It includes a special Pete Rose Tribute subset, plus the usual Record Breakers, Turn Back the Clock, All-Stars, and Team Leaders subsets. The manager cards feature team checklists on their card backs.

Errors[]

There are two uncorrected errors in the set. #51 Bobby Wine is printed as #57. #141 Chuck Cottier is printed as #147.

Key Cards[]

The key rookies in this set are the Darren Daulton, Lenny Dykstra, Cecil Fielder, and Mickey Tettleton rookie cards.

Tiffany Parallel Set[]

Distributed only in factory set form, the Tiffany set parallels the entire 792 card set. Six sets came per case. The cards have extra gloss and a brighter back than the standard issue cards. It is believed that 5000 sets were printed.

Insert Sets[]

Glossy All-Stars[]

Inserted 1 per rack pack, this 22 card set features the starting lineups from the 1985 All-Star game. Also the manager for each team and a team photo card for each team is included in the set.

Glossy Send-Ins[]

This 60-card set was part of a special send-in program. Ten cards would be sent to a collector in exchange for $1 and six "Special Offer" cards that were inserted 1 per wax pack.
