2002 Topps Archives was a retro themed set manufactured and distributed by Topps in 2002. Like the previous year's set, the cards were reprints were of previous Topps releases. However, the set was built around players' best years rather than rookie years.
Distribution[]
The cards were distributed primarily in Hobby shops in 8 card packs, that came 20 packs per box and 8 boxes per case. The cards were released in early April 2002 at $4 SRP per pack.
Base Set[]
The 200-card base set features major stars and Hall of Famers. Topps changed the backs of most of the cards to include the stats from that selected year. Also, in many of the cards, the text was changed to reflect the best year rather than using the original verbiage. For example Ryne Sandberg's card is a reprint of his 1990 Topps card but includes his stat line from 1990.
Inserts[]
The number of game used inserts increased tremendously over the 2001 issue.
