Dontrelle Willis is a former major league baseball player. Originally drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2000, he was traded to the Florida Marlins in 2002 as part of the deal for Matt Clement. Willis premiered for the Marlins in 2003 as a sensation. His unusual windup and energetic personality immediately won fans across baseball netting him the Rookie of the Year award in 2003. Willis's best season came in 2005 when he won 22 games, pitched 5 shutouts earning his second All-Star appearance and finishing second in NL Cy Young voting to Chris Carpenter. Starting in 2008, a series of injuries severely impacted Willis's effectiveness as a pitcher. He last appeared in a major league game in 2011 but did spend parts of 2012, 2013, and 2014 playing for AAA and independent league teams.
