Hyun-Jin Ryu is a current major league baseball player. Ryu is a South Korean left-handed pitcher. In 2004 he underwent "Tommy John" surgery. He began his professional baseball career in the Korean Baseball Organization. He was the KBO's Rookie of the Year and MVP in 2006. Ryu was a member of the 2008 Olympics Gold Medal baseball team. On October 6, 2013, Ryu became the first South Korean to serve as the starting pitcher of a Major League Baseball postseason game.
