Pete Rose is a former major league baseball player and manager. He currently holds the record for career hits. Rose was always a very popular player, known for his hustle and toughness. Topps even released a Pete Rose set in 1985. However, in the late 1980's he was banned from baseball for betting on games. For many years, he was not featured in the major card releases because of the ban. Rose was frequently available to sign autographs at conventions and shows, but almost no new Pete Rose cards were printed from 1993 - 2007. But as companies began producing non-licensed sets more frequently, Rose began popping back up in checklists. Sportkings included Rose in their 2007 set and the following year Donruss included Rose in the 2008 Prime Cuts set. Razor/Leaf also signed Rose to a deal to include him in their sets.
